About RMTs  (Registered Massage Therapists)

LC's Massage Therapy
treats the body, mind, and spirit. We believe in treating each patient with a comprehensive strategy involving physical adjustments, education, and wellness. We have freed many patients from pain and debilitating medication. Treatments are individually, uniquely designed.

We combine the Traditional Chinese Medical Techniques with
Qi Gong to master our mind and body energy ( Qi ) during the treatments to balance  our patients' Yin and Yang to open the blocked channels within the body.

                             Equilibrium is Health !!

How well educated are RMTs trained in BC?

In BC, the educational standards for Registered Massage Therapists are the highest in North America and includes the following:

  • An intensive fulltime 3,000 hour diploma program including 550 hours of clinical experience.
  • A provincial licensing exam is written to demonstrate a thorough understanding of human anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, pathology, and clinical theory.
  • In order to remain certified in BC, RMTs are required to continually update skills and knowledge through continuing education courses.

Why Massage Therapy?

Therapeutic Massage Treatment from an RMT provides a wide variety of therapeutic benefits as well as relaxation.

In BC, over 75% of medical doctors regularly refer their patients to RMTs.

Approximately 1 in 4 visits to family physicians are for conditions that are commonly treated by RMTs.

What is Massage Therapy?

The practice of Massage Therapy is the assessment, treatment, and prevention of dysfunction, injury, pain, disorders of soft tissues ( muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia), and joints.

RMTs provide a non-surgical, non-invasive, drug-free form of health care that integrates manual techniques, active exercise programs, and patient education.

How Can Massage Therapy Help?

Research shows Massage Therapy is effective in reducing fibrosis and contracture, improving circulation, decreasing muscle spasm, controlling pain, and improving respiratory function.

Skeletal Muscles:
The muscular & skeletal systems account for approximately 60% of the mass of the human body and thus can be a large source of pain and dysfunction. If a muscle remains shortened due to injury of overuse, it may become dysfunctional, therefore can not perform to its full potential.

Fibrosis & Contracture:
Massage Therapy can be used to prevent and treat fibrosis ( abnormal formation of scar tissue) and contractures (abnormal shortening of muscle and soft tissue) that often occurs with tissue damage, inflammation, or prolonged immobilizatoin.

Circulation:
Massage Therapy treatments increase the circulatiohn of blood and lymph, thus influencing effective delivery of oxygen and nutrients to cells and the removal of waste products.

Pain Control:
Massage Therapy is widely recognized for effective pain control as it breaks the pain tension cycle by providing alternate sensory input.

Respiratory Functions:
  -  RMTs treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, bronchitis, and asthma.
  -  Rib cage mobility decreases as respiratory muscles become hypertoned due to an increased
      workload.
  -  Massage Therapy is used to improve respiratory rate and chest expansion
.

Is Massage Therapy covered under any medical plan?

  • Massage Therapy is covered in full, or in part under most  extended medical plans.
  • Veteran Affairs Canada covers 11 treatments of 60 minutes per year with a doctor's referral.
  • RCMP covers 10 treatments of 60 minutes per year with a doctor's referral.
  • RMTs are primary contact providers, therfore referrals are not needed for MSP coverage.
